About Chris Becker

Born and raised in Minnesota, Chris Becker studied photography at Ohio University before moving to New York City, where he assisted established photographers from 1989 to 1992. After spending two years living and working in Taiwan, he returned to Minnesota to collaborate with Honeywell, various advertising agencies, and leading travel magazines.

Chris later returned to New York City, where he exhibited his work in galleries and deepened his commitment to fine art photography. He eventually relocated to the coast of Maine, where he now lives in Kennebunk and operates a working studio and gallery in nearby Kennebunkport.

Chris’s photography is rooted in fine art and editorial documentary traditions. When not in his studio, he’s often outdoors, exploring the natural world and chasing the subtle interplay of light and movement.

He describes his work as “a study of time made visible.” Using long exposures and intentional camera movement, he captures the transfer of energy in the landscape. He’s particularly drawn to the tension between the natural and the constructed—where time, light, and human presence meet. While much of his inspiration comes from the quiet drama of the New England coast, his lens also explores city streets across the U.S. and abroad, uncovering layered stories in shadow, structure, and forgotten spaces.
